These Aurignacian groups brought with them complex symbolic expression and communication including bone and ivory beads, musical instruments, and animal and human figurines. Taphonomic analysis indicates that primarily the European eagle owl Bubo bubo and the kestrel Falco tinnunculus were responsible for accumulating the material, and allows us to quantify the potential taxonomic bias resulting from predator behaviour which includes a preference for voles, particularly the water vole Arvicola terrestris. Additionally, rare taxa which include species of murids and soricids may have been present in greater quantities than our sample implies. Overall, the Middle Paleolithic landscape included significant woodland and forested areas while a high proportion of species restricted to cold tundra environments likely indicate punctuated cold and arid periods. The signal from the nearly geogenic layer overlying the Middle Paleolithic material includes a moderate shift in the proportion of cold tundra adapted species, suggesting that the tundra expanded leading up to the Neanderthal depopulation, but no period of drastic climatic change is recognizable. The Aurignacian was significantly colder and drier than the preceding period, with cold tundra expansion reaching its apex for the time period studied. Based on these results the Swabian landscape first encountered by Aurignacian groups was significantly less hospitable than that known to the earlier Middle Paleolithic populations. These results correlate well with past paleo-environmental reconstructions based on sedimentary, botanical, and faunal assemblages.

Upon arrival at one of our Speed Dating events, you will be greeted by our friendly hosts who will check you in. Your host will give a welcome speech to let you know what to expect throughout the evening.

Once the dating part begins, the ladies will be seated at their allocated table. The men will start with the corresponding number. After four minutes, the bell will be rung; and all the girls will stay seated and all the guys will move round. Between each date we allow a little time for you to make your notes on your dates using your Speeding Ticket. The events will continue with a fifteen to twenty minute half time break until you have met everyone there. At Speed Dating, everyone is there to meet other people – just like you.

You have just enough time with each person to decide whether or not you like them – you only get given each other’s contact information if you both agree and consent to this.

Building With Large Stones: The word Megalith derives from the Greek ‘ Mega’ meaning large and ‘Lithos’ and ‘stone’. One of the most noticeably impressive factors about the megaliths is their sheer size, which has given certain sites an almost ‘mythological’ status, with local traditions often claiming that they were fashioned by ‘giants’ or ‘gods’, For example: The association of giants with megaliths goes back to at least the 13th century, when the oldest references to ‘tumuli gigantis’ are found in written documents.

Interestingly, such stories replaced almost completely for several centuries the references to ancient mounds as graves of earlier people e. The technical abilities of the builders of the Ba’albek platform are equally matched by their engineering confidence which required them next to manoeuvre the stones uphill and fit them seamlessly into place. The associated difficulties of such a labour provide an insight into the builders confidence, conviction and ability.

Changes in paper-making technology in the C led to an abandonment of linen rags as the basis from which paper was made, and to the adoption of papers made from wood pulp, instead. Early pulp papers were chemically stable, but the introduction of certain chemical bleaching processes caused paper to be made with a significant residue of acid. Over time, exposure to atmospheric moisture causes these papers to become extremely brittle, eventually resulting in whole books disintegrating into dusty fragments.

Wove paper would be rarely found in books printed from , but very common thereafter. Laid paper still was being made, and is made today, but it becomes rare to find whole books made from it once the stocks of laid paper were used up and replaced by the newer, cheaper paper.
